For those of you who know Bobby Fong whether at DBS and/or through DSOBA, we
wish to inform you the sad passing of Bobby, class of 1975, on May 1, 2002
owing to heart failure. Bobby is survived by his loving wife Mary, and
their two courageous sons Brian and Kelan.
People say a picture says more than a thousand words. Earlier today a classmate unearthed an old photo taken some thirty-odd years ago and there was Bobby at the back, in a red sweater, with a good-natured mischievous smile that has long become Bobby's signature for his passion for life. And what a passion that was, and had always been.
For us classmates the fond memories of Bobby have ironically brought some badly needed comfort amidst such a sad loss...childhood follies at DPS followed by teenage ventures at DBS with Bobby forever the gentle, soft-spoken comrade with an unfailing sense of understated humour. Bobby was also active in sports, having participated in inter-school life-saving and cricket competitions, and was a member of the Form 4 Arts squad in winning all 15 apples in 1974. Bobby left Hong Kong in the same year to further his studies in North America, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography from ITT in Chicago. In mid-1980s, Bobby returned to Hong Kong after completing a Master Degree in Communications at the University of Florida. And what a communicator he was...
...for Bobby communicated warmth, care, wit, friendship and devotion, as those of you involved in DSOBA may recall Bobby enthusiastically serving as General Committee member from 1991 to 2000, chairman of Ball Committee in 1992, vice president in 1998-99...the list goes on. Lately, we are learning there are times when life goes out prematuredly for the less fortunate ones among us, and we are the ones who have been so fortunate to have known Bobby as a classmate, as a dear friend. And we take solace in the full knowledge of Bobby having led a rich life during his time, rich in all the ways and manners Bobby had enriched the lives of people around him, including us. For that we shall forever be indebted to Bobby... who shall be deeply missed by us. Class 1975 |
