With much sadness we wish to inform you of the passing away of our dear classmate Mervin Wong Shiu-Ching on February 7, 2006. Mervin is survived by his most loving and courageous mother Lily, and his younger brother Roderick and family.
For those among us who commenced primary school at DPS, the friendship with Mervin would have extended beyond 40 years, during which Mervin moved through life, at different intervals, as a top student, a violin player, a boyscout, a school team tennis player, a member of the time-keeping squad... always keen to move on, always searching. Mervin left DBS in summer of 1974 to enroll at Worchester Academy, Connecticut, and went on to study chemical engineering at Columbia University, New York. In the 1990s, Mervin attended Stanford University, California for a Master Degree in economics and industrial engineering, and returned briefly to Hong Kong to work with the market research firm SRH. Once again, Mervin opted to move on. On Mervin, our classmate Michael Chang has the following to say: "I like to remember Mervin as a fiercely independent and fearless seeker. He was never afraid to march to a different drummer, at whatever cost. There was something unique, pig-headed, and DBS about Mervin." Mervin received baptism and took on the Christian faith on January 20, 2006. May Mervin rest in peace. Class of '75 |
